In lieu of Women’s History Month, I wanted to shine some light on women trailblazers who are shaping the workforce right now or in the past few years.
According to Forbes, these are the 100 most influential women today.
MacKenzie Scott has been noted as the most influential woman on this list. She is an American Novelist and Philanthropist. What you may not know about her is who she was formerly married to. Her ex-husband is Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon. In May 2019, Scott signed the Giving Pledge, a charitable-giving campaign in which she undertook to give away most of her wealth to charity over her lifetime. I love that MacKenzie Scott is organizing the effort by the world's wealthiest individuals and families to dedicate most of their wealth to charitable causes.
Let’s go back a few years in history.
When Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away in September 2020, the United States mourned the loss of one of its foremost champions of gender equality. Throughout her career as an attorney, judge, and associate justice of the Supreme Court, Ginsburg’s commitment to the principle of equal justice under the law transformed the legal landscape in the U.S. — particularly for women.
When you think of women who have shaped the workforce, who do you think of?
I immediately think of Sheryl Kara Sandberg, who is an American business executive, billionaire, and philanthropist. Sandberg is the chief operating officer (COO) of Meta Platforms, formerly known as Facebook, and the founder of LeanIn.Org. In 2009, Sandberg was named to the board of The Walt Disney Company. She also serves on the boards of Women for Women International, the Center for Global Development, and V-Day. She was previously a board member of Starbucks, Brookings Institution, and Ad Council.
Women have a significant impact in the workforce today. Our past generations would be elated at the progress of women in business. If you could change one aspect of business, what would it be? How can you use your strengths to be a trailblazer in that area?
